Oils on Canvas Jim Oleson Scottsdale, Arizona
My love affair with art began years ago with a visit to an exhibit of french impressionists; Manet,
Degas and Van Gogh opened my eyes and heart to lights, colors and shadows. I became fascinated with their art and my
search for knowledge and appreciation began. I spent years exploring every art museum everywhere, trying to
define that indefinable beauty. Eventually I took up the brush and have never stop putting oil to canvas. I
sought instruction when ever time and place would allow. My training covering many years has provided me with fundamentals
in technique, values and composition and a much greater understanding of everything artistic.
I am on a lifetime journey, a never ending pursuit for originality, creativity and beauty. Ideas for my
paintings come from photographs, sketches, descriptive passages from literature, other painters and memories of
times gone by. My style and presentation has been influenced by many artists both famous and obscure; the impressionists,
both french and California, Hudson River School in particular. I have over the years worked quietly painting primarily
for myself with little commercial interest. My Art has generated a small group of supporters and collectors who enjoy
my work.
My paintings are available through commissions, private showings and an occasional Art Show. A list of buyers are available for serious inquiries. A professional career that took me in other directions is now
winding down and I have more time and energy for my art. Every canvas is a new adventure. My many years of experience
reflects a mature and unique expression. My work is exclusive to oils I hope that viewers will enjoy the richness of
colors that are warm to the eye and on occasion touch the heart.
